At this stage of the game, nearly five months in to a grueling wrestling season with just two days to go, it's just win, baby.

That's the only attitude needed at the PIAA Wrestling Championships and one which Cumberland Valley's two Class AAA stars adopted on Thursday during the preliminary round at Giant Center.

Patrick Duggan and T.C. Warner won their first-round matches in different styles, Duggan grinding out an 8-4 win and Warner clipping his way to a fall in 1:04. Both earned high medals last season, Warner second at 145 and Duggan fourth at 126.

"First day, a lot of nerves and I was happy to come out and get two wins,'' CV coach Dave Heckard said.

"It's a tough tournament and it's one match at a time and that's important.''

Warner (37-1) decked Jeffrey Reimel of North Penn and will face Dan Krysiak of Erie Prep in Friday's quarterfinals.

"I thought TC looked good,'' Heckard said. "He started the tournament out with a pin and that's good. He's wrestling well right now.''

Duggan (36-2) was more methodical, racking up four takedowns in an 8-4 victory over Wolfgang McStravick of Upper Perkiomen.

"Patrick didn't look the best that he could have looked but, again, first match, first time wrestling in a couple of weeks. He was solid, he looked tough.''

Duggan's Friday foe is Drew Walker (33-5) of North Hills.

"Their frame of mind is good, they've had a good week of workouts,'' Heckard said about his pair of aces.

"I think they're feeling confident.''
