Holding a 23-5 lead after one quarter, State College's boys' basketball squad had high hopes of advancing to the next round of states.
It never happened.
The Little Lions built an 18-point lead against North Allegheny, but that advantage didn't last in an 84-76 loss in Saturday evening's PIAA Class AAAA first-round game, held at Altoona High School.
The Tigers (22-4), who got 22 points from Sean Hennigan, advance to the second round, where they will face District 7 champion New Castle, a 63-43 winner over Gateway.
State College, which got a game-high 27 points from Ryan Sekunda, ends its season at 17-8.
