READING - Talk about redemption.
In last year's PIAA-AAA girls' basketball state championship game, Lancaster Catholic's Porscha Speller was hobbled with a knee injury, and tried to play against Archbishop Wood with a bulky brace.
Didn't happen.
Speller, the Crusaders' leading scorer, didn't score a single point and the Vikings rolled over Lancaster Catholic and won gold.
Fast forward to Wednesday night.
In the rematch game in Reading High's Geigle Complex, a healthy Speller went off for 24 points, including 13 clutch third-quarter points, helping the Crusaders pull away, and Lancaster Catholic knocked off Archbishop Wood 54-46.
That means no four-peat for the Vikings, who had won three PIAA titles in a row.
Next up for the Crusaders, now 30-1, is a trip to the state quarterfinals on Saturday against District 7 fourth-seed Blackhawk.
PIAA-AAA girls' basketball bracket.
Speller has been lights out during the postseason. In nine postseason games, she's averaging 18.6 points with 16 3-pointers.
Chatted with Speller after the Crusaders' win over Archbishop Wood about the victory, about Lancaster Catholic's game plan, getting some revenge and moving forward. Take a look.
