Trinity took their undefeated record on the road to Berks County where they met up with the Exeter Eagles for a nonconference game. Also undefeated, Exeter prevailed and handed Trinity its first loss of the season.
Derek Stump started things off with an unassisted goal followed by teammate Daniel Botlley's goal less than a minute later assisted by Brian Crim. Dave Hergenroeder quickly scored his first of three goals of the day unassisted. Botley added another one for the Eagles to end the first quarter 3 to 1.
Dave Hergenroeder scored again unassisted in the second quarter and then earlier in the third quarter to score his second hat trick in as many games. Kyle Scott fed fellow attackman Connor Bailey to provide Trinity's fourth goal in the last minute of the third period, but by then Exeter was up 9 to 4.
Stump and Botley kept trading off goals and ended up with five and four respectively. When Trinity's defense was able to keep them at bay, midfielder Darion Einsig got into the action scoring two goals in the third period.
"Playing Trinity always scares me" Exeter Head Coach Stump said. " They always have a strong team. We won some take aways today and that helped. I'm really proud of our seniors who have played well all year. "
Trinity did have some success in the closing minutes with CJs Sherlock goal from Mike Kelly and Freshman LSM's Griffin Smith's unassisted goal. Despite that and excellent goaltending by Karl Dickey (nine saves) Exeter won the day with 13 goals and 40 shots.
" We really did not play to our potential today" said Smith." I'm looking forward to stepping it up and playing to our potential on Monday."
Trinity returns home on Monday to host cross town rival Cumberland Valley in a game that was rescheduled due to weather.
