MANHEIM - Here's name to remember:

Tyler Hoag.

Manheim Central's throwing specialist is off to quite a fast start in his freshman season for the Barons.

The shot put is his bread and butter.

And so far this spring, no L-L League boys' athlete has heaved the shot as far as Hoag, who uncorked a personal-best 51-2 on Thursday in the Barons' non-league meet victory over Palmyra.

Hoag hit the 51-2 on his fourth and final throw; he matched his previous career-best with a 50-3 on his third attempt.

Hoag is chasing Manheim Central's school mark of 53-10, set by Kris Kalicicki in 2000.

He's also competing in the javelin and the discus for the Barons; he has one of the top javelin throwers in the state - Penn State recruit Cole Proffitt - as a teammate, and he's also picking up the intricacies of the disc.

With three-plus years to go, you should be hearing the name Tyler Hoag plenty in L-L League track and field circles.

Chatted with Hoag after the Barons' meet vs. Palmyra about his early success and what the future holds for Manheim Central's budding standout.
