L-L football notables: Injuries piling up

Some L-L football teams are coping with injuries — before the season openers.-(Jeff Reinhart | PennLive.com)

LANCASTER – A few L-L League football items from the notebook …

INJURIES: Oy, those are piling up pretty quickly.

Penn Manor lost a pair of studs for an extended time when WR-DB Brett Caggiano (collarbone) and RB Tyler Spangler (arm) went down last Saturday in a scrimmage against Manheim Central.

Was told Comets’ two-way stud Ethan Barley, who went down with a hamstring injury during the same scrimmage, won’t be lost for very long. Same goes for Penn Manor two-way standout and blue-chip recruit Charles Bell, who is battling a nagging injury himself.

To my knowledge, no L-L team was hit harder by injuries during camp than Penn Manor. And don’t forget, the Comets are the trendy pick to pass Wilson for the Section 1 crown.

And this bad news from Ephrata camp: The Mounts called off their scrimmage Friday at Lancaster Catholic early after a couple of kids went down with injuries, including multi-purpose back Blake Weaver, who suffered a collarbone injury. No word on how long he’ll be lost. But that’s one kid Ephrata really needs because of his penchant for making plays on both sides of the ball.

TV TIME: A pair of games featuring L-L League teams will be broadcast as the PCN-TV Game of the Week — beaming out across the state.

On August 30, the Wilson at Governor Mifflin non-league game will be featured.

And on September 21, the Elizabethtown at Manheim Central Section 2 game will be featured.

Circle those on your calendar.
