PEQUEA VALLEY AT YORK TECH SATURDAY, 10 A.M.
THE BRAVES: It’s put-up or shut-up time for Pequea Valley, which hit camp with big expectations. The Braves’ goal: Equal or surpass the program record of five wins in the regular season. There is a well-rounded group here to attack that mark, including dual-threat QB Hunter Smith, who can chuck it and run with it. And he’ll have a crop of thumpers in front of him to protect, like C Ben Teijaro, OT Brett Reifsnyder and OGs Tyler Doratt and Keith Beiler. Beiler doubles up as the D ringleader from his LB spot. Speaking of D, Pequea Valley came up big on that side of the ball in its final scrimmage vs. Oxford. They’re hoping that carries over, because the Braves’ O has the weapons to hang some crooked numbers on the scoreboard.
PEQUEA VALLEY COUNTDOWN TO CAMP PREVIEW
THE SPARTANS: Say hello to the new boss, Matt Glennon, York Tech’s first-year coach. He inherits a team that went 2-8 overall last season — including a 45-16 setback to Pequea Valley — but returns a whopping 20 total starters from the squad that went 2-7 in YAIAA Division III games. QB Dalmar Dickson pilots York Tech’s triple-option scheme; he rushed for 852 yards and seven TD last year. When Dickson doesn’t take off, bruiser FB Calvin Savary is a major weapon; he rushed for 1,554 yards and 13 TD last fall. All-Star d-tackle Shurome Hairston is one of 10 returning starters on defense.
THE CRUX: Pequea Valley’s 3-3 stack D scheme — with Beiler, Gabe Allgyer and Tyler Hershey at LB plus Smith roaming the middle from his safety spot — against Dickson, Savary and the Spartans’ option attack.
REINHART SAYS: Time for Pequea Valley (+16) to stop talking and start proving it on the field. Calling a fast start for the Braves.
