Although Hershey High has littered its trophy case with Cocoa Bean Bowl hardware lately, one player from rival Milton Hershey certainly captured some attention in Friday's 71st edition of the crosstown classic.
The voters have spoken, pegging Spartans standout Kevin Wiggins as Pennlive.com's Week 1 Superstar. Wiggins, the Spartans shifty senior wideout, hauled in nine catches for 117 yards against the Trojans, who eventually cleared a hard-fought 20-15 victory at the Concrete Palace.
Of the 3,952 votes that were cast, Wiggins secured 1,398, edging Mechanicsburg sophomore tailback Shyheim Brown (825) and Camp Hill freshman RB Billy Williams (670). Among the nominees was Hershey QB Jesse Campbell, who put the Trojans ahead for good with an 10-yard TD scamper with 2:25 to play.
