The first week of the girls' soccer regular season kick off this afternoon and this evening with a handful of intriguing games.

PennLive is here to give you a quick look around the Mid-Penn Conference for today's key matchups after an opening weekend that saw a terrific battle between Mid-Penn Conference sophomore State College and defending PIAA Class AAA champ Peters Township, an impressive showing from defending District 3-AA champ Trinity, plus a handful of opening weekend tournaments.

Here is what's on tap for Tuesday's girls' soccer slate:

  • State College at Cumberland Valley, 7 p.m. - The Eagles have plenty of talents and high expectations and they'll be tested right off the bat against a Little Lions' club that is coming off of a tough 3-2 loss to Peters Township at Saturday's South Park Invitational. It's the defending District 3-AAA champs vs. the defending District 6-AAA champs. Terrific start to division play.

  • Carlisle at Cedar Cliff, 3:45 p.m. - Another Commonwealth Division tilt pits the Colts and the Thundering Herd in battle between two teams that hope to be in the mix for the division title. The Colts have plenty of experience back from last year's District 3-AAA playoff team. The Herd, under new head coach Lester Felician, have provided some preseason buzz and split games against Trinity and Mechanicsburg over the weekend.

  • Lancaster Country Day at Halifax, 4 p.m. - The Cougars and the Wildcats, two potential District 3-A playoff teams, engage in a early Tri-Valley League matchup. Both teams looked very good over the weekend with LCD doubling up Annville-Cleona 8-4 on Friday, while the 'Cats split a pair of games in its own tournament.
