SELINSGROVE AT TRINITY

7 p.m. FRIDAY, COBO FIELD

RECORDS: Selinsgrove 1-0; Trinity 0-1.

THE SEALS: That 21-6 victory over Mifflinburg in Week 1 wasn’t without its hiccups. The Seals had trouble moving the ball consistently and twice fumbled inside the red zone to foil drives What showed its true mettle was Selinsgrove’s run defense and ability to move the ball on the ground. The Seals rolled up 362 yards on the ground and their defense surrendered only 36 yards on 35 rushing attempts. Mifflinburg did manage 181 yards through the air. After what Trinity’s defense surrendered on the ground in its opener, expect RB’s Angelo Martin and Conner Liesenfeld to get serious totes. The duo rolled up 209 on 23 carries in the opener behind an O-Line that isn’t huge but still has decent size.

THE SHAMROCKS: Simply could not stop Delone Catholic from running the ball at will in the fourth quarter and dropped their opener by 14 in a game that was 21-all after three quarters. Head coach Bill Ragni is a defensive guy and is probably losing sleep working on new ways to work the problem. The Squires rang up a whopping 365 yards on 72 defense tiring carries on the ground as part of a 512-yard night. The T-Rocks’ offense led by QB Mike Boguski will be a force through the air this season. The ground game is a work in progress. Boguski threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns with a pair of picks. Eleven of his 16 completions went to 6-5 wideout Brandon Kuntz for 240 yards and three touchdowns..

THE CRUX: Selinsgrove is a running team, so the Trinity defense knows exactly what is coming down the pike. You can throw on the Seals, so the Shamrocks will be able to put some points on the board. This is all about the Trinity run defense.

SHAY SAYS: A physical program that has won 11 District 4-AAA championships, Selinsgrove (-10) has a huge match-up advantage with its offensive line and running game against Trinity’s run defense. All roads, based on what happened in Week 1, indicate a Seals victory via the ground.
