HEMPFIELD AT PENN MANOR
FRIDAY, 7 P.M., MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY
RECORDS: Hempfield 2-1; Penn Manor 3-0
THE BLACK KNIGHTS: Sam Kramer to the rescue. Not only did the soph QB fill in quite nicely under center for the injured Mike Edwards; he won the Week 3 game for Hempfield with a 6-yard TD keeper with 50 seconds to go at Central York: Knights 28, Panthers 21. Kramer rushed for 171 yards and two TD, and RB Devin Washington continued his hot start with 154 yards and a TD vs. CY. Washington is fourth in the L-L in rushing (64-333, 5.2, 3 TD), and the Knights are seventh in the league in total team O (343.7 yards per game). No word when Edwards, knocked out in Week 2 at Manheim Central, will be back. But Kramer more than handled the duties last Friday. Don’t forget about that o-line, either; Knights’ average 266 pounds per man in the trenches. Should be a great line-of-scrimmage battle in this one.
THE COMETS: Noah Braun to the rescue. Penn Manor’s junior d-tackle sacked Dallastown QB Anthony Henry on the Wildcats’ last-ditch fourth-down play with time running out as the Comets held on 13-10 last Friday and remained unbeaten. RB-LB Charles Bell continues to shine; he’s rushed for 284 yards, caught 11 passes for 172 yards and scored seven TD. And he and LB Logan Kinser have been studs defensively. Comets crunched the Knights 49-0 last year in Landisville, so they’ll have to be aware of the payback factor.
THE CRUX: Lets go Penn Manor’s defense — No. 2 in the L-L, giving up just 145.7 yards per game — against Hempfield’s multi-purpose offensive attack. Comets’ D has been stingy against the run, allowing just 159 ground yards in three games — second-least in the L-L.
REINHART SAYS: Penn Manor (-6) found a different way to win vs. Dallastown, using a clutch defensive stand with time running out to go to 3-0. We really like the Comets’ D, even against Hempfield’s high-powered attack.
