Yeah, it’s mid-November and local prep basketball teams took to the court for the first time on Monday — the first official practice date for winter sports.
But if you’re talking favorites — teams who have a legit shot to make some major noise come March — Cumberland Valley’s girls’ squad must be in the conversation.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM CUMBERLAND VALLEY'S FIRST PRACTICE
Coach Bill Wolf’s Eagles went 26-7 and advanced to the state championship game last winter; CV fell to Spring-Ford 60-45 in said title game, but the Eagles lost just one starter from that team.
One of CV’s top returning performers is Maddie Torresin, signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career for Division I University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Here’s an interview with Torresin about the Eagles prepping for their upcoming season, and about her decision to choose UMBC. Take a look:
The Eagles will also feature Kelly Jekot, who had a breakout freshman campaign last winter — then went to Colorado Springs last spring to compete for a spot on the USA Basketball Women’s Under-16 Team, along with 123 other hopefuls.
She was one of the final cuts.
Here’s an interview with Jekot about CV getting ready for a lot of bull’s-eyes this season, and about her experience trying out for Team USA. Take a look:
Our girls’ basketball camp tour continues later this week with a trip to Lancaster Catholic, where the Crusaders are prepping to keep hold of their L-L League champions.
