One step away from a third consecutive District 3-AAAA championship game appearance, the kingpin of Lancaster-Lebanon Section I is led by the mild mannered Doug Dahms. Here are five nuggets about the defending District 3-AAAA champions.
1. Ten new starters didn’t matter: The Bulldogs replaced 10 starters on defense this season. Yet it still managed to look exactly the same as it did a year ago. Nobody ran the ball on this team with any consistency and entering Week 13 Wilson is averaging a ridiculous 70.7 yards surrendered a game on the ground.
2. Winning ways in West Lawn: That new turf and updated bleachers unveiled at John Gurski Stadium this season was earned. Wilson has won six consecutive Lancaster-Lebanon Section I titles without losing a single league game.
3. Balance or absence of a No. 1 back?: For all the points and yards the Wilson puts up on a weekly basis, the Bulldogs do not have a 1,000 yard rusher after 12 games. They don’t have anybody really close, either. John Raifsnider has 831 yards and Shane Dantzler has 724. Of course, the duo has put up 24 combined touchdowns.
4. Three-score limit: Only two teams, Harrisburg in Week 2 and Hempfield in Week 6, managed to find the end zone three times against the Bulldogs’ defense. Nobody has scored more than 23 points on Wilson this season.
5. Getting a kick out of Hunter: Senior kicker Hunter Rubright gives this match up with Lower Dauphin two hammers at the most underrated position in high school football. This season Rubright has booted 11 field goals and is 51-for-53 in extra points. His long field goal is 43 yards, but he has four total field goals from 40 yards or longer.
