Marcquise Reed pocketed 15 of his 23 points in the third quarter — the 6-3 Reed was 10-for-11 at the free-throw line during that stretch — as Capitol Christian (Md.) Academy defeated York's New Hope Academy 86-69 at the DMV Elite Tip-Off Classic Sunday at C.H. Flowers High School in Springdale, Md.
Jamelle Christian and Deven McClenton added 16 points apiece for Capitol (5-2), which knocked down a buzzer-beating trey and grabbed a 27-22 halftime lead. Eight minutes later, after Reed unloaded his 15-point salvo, Capitol's lead had grown to 63-37.
NaGus Griggs tossed in a team-high 22 points for David Archer's Mighty Ants (0-1), who were making their debut under new skipper David Archer. Sophomore lead guard Montrel Morgan chipped in 18 points and six assists for the Ants, while Kareem Oden netted 11.
"Morgan, [freshman Tyrece] Little, Oden and Griggs played really well today," said Archer, the Harrisburg native who took over the New Hope program after spending four seasons at Pine Grove.
New Hope will play again on Tuesday night at Gospel of Grace Christian in Cheltenham.
