Not a full-plate of games on the first night of Mid-Penn girls’ basketball division play on Tuesday.

The second snowstorm in a week saw to that.

Still, the eight games contested produced some intriguing results.

STREAK-BUSTER FOR RED LAND

Hats off to coach Andy Bell and Red Land, which beat Lower Dauphin for the first time in 10 years, compliments of a 50-44 victory in the Keystone lid-lifter. Bella Ricci continued her hot start for the Patriots; she hit three 3s and scored 12 points in Red Land’s season-opening 58-49 setback to Northeastern. She followed that up with 20 points in the Patriots’ win over LD (0-1, 1-2). Red Land will try and make it 2-0 in the Keystone on Friday vs. Mechanicsburg (1-1).

SHOWDOWN IS SET

Cumberland Valley and Harrisburg both won Commonwealth openers on Tuesday; the Eagles dropped Mifflin County 76-38 and the Cougars cruised past Carlisle 71-47. That sets up Friday’s showdown, when CV (1-0, 2-0) visits Harrisburg (1-0, 3-0) for an early leg-up for first place in the division. Cougars’ trio of Tysha Brown (13.0), Quency Hickerson (14.7) and Alexis Marshall (11.3) are playing very well early on.

COUGARS REMAIN PERFECT

Palmyra continues to zoom right along — even with point Katie Dembrowski still on the sideline nursing a wrist injury. Cougars crunched Cedar Cliff 63-36 in their Keystone opener Tuesday, as Palmyra opened defense of its division crown behind Bucknell recruit Carly Richardson, who splashed five 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Before jumping back into conference play, Palmyra has an all-Lebanon nonleague game Thursday against Elco.

MUSTANGS ALIVE AND KICKING

West Perry was our preseason pick to claim Capital honors, and the Mustangs broke out of the gates early with a 49-33 win over Susquenita — snapping the Blackhawks’ 2-game winning streak in the process. Speaking of trios that are off to sizzling starts, West Perry’s Caitlin Lavenberg (13.7, 8 3s), Megan Smith (15.7) and Madison Urich (10.7) are taking care of business for the Mustangs (1-0, 2-1).

McDEVITT PLAYING WAITING GAME

Every team in the Mid-Penn has played at least one game except Bishop McDevitt, which has yet to tip this season. Crusaders were supposed to play their Keystone opener on Tuesday vs. Susquehanna Township, but the game was postponed because of snow and will be made up Saturday, Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m. Coach Joe Bressi, back in the saddle for McDevitt, will have to wait until Friday for his return to the bench, when the Crusaders play Lower Dauphin.

WEDNESDAY DOCKET

Intriguing nonleague game tonight: Berks Catholic (2-0) at Trinity (1-1) in a match-up of District 3-AAA heavyweights. Circle that one. … Two Mid-Penn teams will try and stay undefeated Wednesday: Middletown (2-0) takes on Camp Hill in a Capital opener and Greencastle-Antrim (2-0) takes on Waynesboro in a Colonial opener.
