While Cumberland Valley (9-0-0 in Tier 1) and Penn Manor (7-0-0 in Tier 3) are undefeated in Central Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League play, three teams remain in search of their first victories as the 10-day holiday break approaches beginning Dec. 24.
Dallastown, last year’s runner-up in the Bears Cup title game, continues to occupy the Tier 1 basement, having lost all nine of its games this season.
Way too many goals against (81) and precious too few scored (28) remain a sore spot for the Wildcats, who wrap up their pre-holiday schedule with games vs. Central York (4-6-0) on Wednesday night and Cedar Crest (4-3-1) on Monday.
Manheim Central’s losing skid reached 26 with setbacks last week against Warwick (9-0) and Tier 2-leading Hempfield (13-1). The Barons have scored just six goals in their eight games, by far the fewest in the CPIHL.
They were victimized Friday by Black Knights junior forward Connor McGuire, who scored three goals and set up four others in a seven-point performance. Central's next two games come Wednesday vs. Lower Dauphin and Monday against Red Land.
In Tier 3, West York is still looking for its first win, but the Bulldogs (0-7-1) finally netted a point in the standings with Monday’s 8-8 tie against Middletown.
Senior forward Evan Maher helped West York build an 8-7 lead on the strength of four goals and two assists, but the Blue Raiders forged the draw on junior forward Nick Maneval’s goal with 2:34 left to play.
Freshman forward Noah Zimmerman scored three times for Middletown and helped set up Maneval’s tying goal, capping off a four-point night.
