Cumberland Valley edges CD East 59-57, takes sole possession of Commonwealth Division lead: boys' basketball roundup

Popping four players into double figures, Mike Hibbs’ Cumberland Valley Eagles claimed the battle of Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division hoops unbeatens, edging Central Dauphin East 59-57 Wednesday night at the CV Dome.

Matt Tamanosky netted a team-high 18 points for Hibbs’ Eagles (6-0, 4-0), while Gray Kline checked in with 14, John Peterson banked 13 and Collin Schutjer wound up with 10. Tamanosky and Kline shared 14 of CV’s 17 points down the stretch.

Dwight Whitlock tossed in a career-high 30 points for East (3-3, 3-1) — including 19 in the second half. Derrick Biney also reached double figures, totaling 11 points. …

Bishop McDevitt 76, Cedar Cliff 70: Dyllon Hudson-Emory popped a double-double (career-high 31 points, 10 rebounds) and Justin McCarthur racked up 20 points as Bishop McDevitt (5-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten with a win at Mid-Penn Keystone Division playmate Cedar Cliff. Zack Galic, Owen Shenk and Cam Paul shared 44 points for Jim Rowe’s Colts (4-2, 2-2). …

Lebanon Catholic 61, Donegal 46: Anthony Pletz rang up 23 points and Matt Kern checked in with 11 as Scott Clentimack’s Beavers (5-0, 3-0) subdued Donegal (1-5, 1-2) in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3-4 crossover. Elijah Schlaybach collected a game-high 28 points for Ryan Butt’s Indians. Lebanon Catholic will visit fellow Section 4 unbeaten Lancaster Mennonite Thursday night. …

Lancaster Mennonite 71, Elco 55: Speaking of Mennonite, Geoff Groff’s Blazers put five players in double figures while easing past Elco. Matt Hess topped LM (4-0, 3-0) with 15, while Tyler Constein tacked on 14. Brayden Smith paced Elco (3-2, 2-1) with 18 points. …

Waynesboro 59, Shippensburg 51: His Indians (5-1, 3-1) trailing by three with six minutes remaining, Devonte Montgomery scored 11 of his team-high 18 points to rally his club to victory. Connor Fetterhoff (16) and Shaquill Smith (14) shared 30 more points for ‘Boro, while Spencer Van Scyoc’s 19 points topped the host Greyhounds (3-2, 2-1) in this Mid-Penn Colonial affair. ...

Lower Dauphin 48, Trinity 47: A dominant first half was just enough to enable the Falcons (4-2, 3-1) to hold off the Shamrocks (1-4, 0-3) in a Mid-Penn Keystone battle. LD, which led 32-16 at the break, withstood a furious surge by Trinity. The Falcons didn’t make a field goal in the fourth but survived thanks to free throws: Ryan Naccarato was 6-for-10 in the fourth, and all-state football player Trey Klock showed nice touch by sinking all four of his late freebies. Tommy Bowen led LD with 12, while Josh Trumpy (17) and Dominick Antonelli (16) shared 33 for Trinity, losers of four straight. ...

Manheim Twp. 77, Ephrata 74 (OT): Seth Brewer bagged six of his game-high 23 points in overtime, helping the Blue Streaks (3-3, 2-1) claim this L-L Section 1 vs. 2 crossover victory over the Mounts (1-4, 1-2). Christian Mitchell added 16 for Township, making eight of nine from the stripe. Aaron Huston’s 18 led four Ephrata players in double figures. ... 

Hershey 78, Susquehanna Twp. 63: Riding a strong second quarter in which they outscored the hosts 23-9, the Trojans (3-3, 2-2) evened their record and handed the Indians (3-2, 1-2) a second straight defeat. Chase Watkins bucketed 20 for Hershey with teammates Jack Gunkel (17), Ricky Bugg (17) and Taylor Sweeney (10) also hitting double digits. Nehemiah Mack sank five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 for ‘Hanna.
