PennLive’s Class AAAA girls’ state basketball rankings have a different look this week.
After three ranked teams fell last Saturday in the Play-By-Play Classic at Philadelphia University, that was bound to happen.
But none of those losses — against some top-shelf competition — was enough to bump anyone out of the top 10 this week.
And when No. 2 Mount St. Joseph beat No. 1 Spring-Ford in that ultra competitive 1-day showcase event, it was a simple switch-a-roo for the top spot.
MSJ vaulted to the top of the heap, ahead of reigning PIAA champ Spring-Ford, which slips to the 2-line.
Those two are bound to meet again down the road in the District 1 playoffs. Stay tuned.
All kinds of movement after the top two:
Mid-Penn power and reigning state runner-up Cumberland Valley bumped up to No. 3, leapfrogging North Penn, which lost to Upper Dublin in the Classic on Saturday, after falling to Central Bucks West last Thursday.
The biggest climber: CB West went from No. 9 to No. 4 after beating Suburban One League rival North Penn last Thursday and then knocking off WPIAL heavyweight Mt. Lebanon, which went from No. 5 to No. 9, in the Philly Classic, as the Blue Devils came east.
The Bucks continued their roll Tuesday with a 33-point romp over Hatboro-Horsham.
North Allegheny also bumped up a spot, from No. 6 to No. 5, after handing WPIAL neighbor Shaler its first loss this season.
Upper Dublin was feeling fine after beating North Penn in Philly on Saturday, but UD suffered its first loss this season on Tuesday, falling to Upper Merion in a head-turner.
Dover, No. 1 in the District 3-AAAA power rankings, and the lone unbeaten team in our top 10, remained at No. 10 after key York/Adams victories over Dallastown and Susquehannock.
The honorable mention team closest to crashing the top 10: Cardinal O’Hara. The Philly Catholic League standout survived Rancocas Valley (N.J.) in the Philly Classic on Saturday before beating Class AAA-ranked Bonner-Prendergast 57-56 on Tuesday.
