RECAP
Palmyra jetted to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and led 32-9 at the half on Wednesday night and the Cougars cruised to a 46-24 win at Bishop McDevitt in a Mid-Penn Keystone girls’ basketball game.
Katie McClellan scored a game-high 13 points to pace Palmyra, which nearly found itself back in a first-place tie in the Keystone.
But when host Mechanicsburg eked out a 37-34 win over upset-minded Trinity, the Wildcats remained ahead of Palmyra in the Keystone chase.
Mechanicsburg, which coughed up a 28-18 halftime and had to rally past Trinity in the closing seconds, won its 11th game in a row — including last Friday’s 52-41 home win over Palmyra.
On Wednesday, Palmyra, which improved to 10-2 in division games and to 16-2 overall, closed out Bishop McDevitt by holding the host Crusaders to 1 third-quarter point.
Lauren Purcell scored 8 points for McDevitt, which dipped to 2-11 in the Keystone.
