MVP: G Dominick Antonelli, 6-1 sr, Trinity
Remarkably consistent throughout Trinity’s three-game journey to its first District 3-AA championship since 2010 — and the Shamrocks’ 12th overall — Antonelli also seemed to flash his clutch gene whenever Larry Kostelac Jr.’s club needed it.
Or, should we say, really needed it.
Antonelli began tournament play by tossing in a game-high 22 points as Trinity bounced into a hostile Camp Hill gymnasium for a neighbor vs. neighbor affair and hustled out with a 57-47 victory. He also was 8-for-8 at the stripe with Navy recruiters looking on.
Then, in the 3-AA semis at Giant Center, Antonelli bagged seven of his 13 points in the third quarter as Kostelac’s bunch erased a pesky three-point halftime deficit en route to a 57-52 triumph over Columbia. He also grabbed six boards and dished out five assists, displaying other dimensions of his well-versed floor game.
Finally, in Friday night’s championship game at Giant Center, Antonelli netted 11 of his 16 points in the second half of Trinity’s 55-46 conquest of Hanover. The 6-1 senior also snagged four boards as the Shamrocks were able to fend off the feisty Nighthawks.
Splendid stuff all around for PennLive's District 3-AA tournament most valuable player.
