Rachel McCormick scored a 438.70 to place fourth in the PIAA Class AAA girls' diving on Thursday afternoon at Bucknell University.
McCormick was fifth last year, and getting into the top four was her focus.
"My goal was just to get either the same or higher than I did last year," McCormick said.
After scoring a 43.00 on her last attempt of preliminaries, a backwards 1.5 somersault tuck, McCormick moved into fourth place and stayed there the rest of the way.
"I think I did the best I could," McCormick said. "I don't think I had as much DOD [degree of difficulty] as other girls, and that plays a factor."
McCormick, who will be going to UNC Wilmington next year, did close out each phase of the competition with a flourish. On the last dive of the semifinals, she scored a 44.10 on a reverse 1.5 somersault tuck. On the final dive of the finals, she scored a 41.40 on a 1.5 somersault, two twist dive.
"I just had to stay focused and hit all my dives as best as I could," McCormick said.
No other District 3 divers medaled. Hempfield's Brianna Digillio was one spot short of the medal stand with a ninth-place 396.60. Hershey's Nadia Mulder was 11th with a 382.15.
Maria Lohman of Chartiers Valley won the gold medal for the second year in a row, setting a PIAA and Kinney Natatorium record with a 529.80.
