Charlie Harvey will not be back as CD East’s girls’ basketball coach next season, East athletic director Greg Goldthorp confirmed this week.

Harvey, the former boys’ basketball coach at East, spent the last three seasons as the Panthers’ girls’ coach.

East went 14-10 this past season, including a 10-4 mark in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth, good for a second-place finish in the division behind PIAA-AAAA state finalist and conference champ Cumberland Valley.

The Panthers defeated the Eagles in their first Mid-Penn scrap earlier this season.

East beat Lampeter-Strasburg 63-43 in a District 3-AAAA preliminary-round game, before falling to eventual champ Wilson 69-32 in the first round.

According to Harvey, he was not given a reason to why his basketball contract was not renewed for next season.

“It’s kind of a sad scenario,” he told PennLive. “Basically I was asked to resign, but I was never told why. And I was never told of any problems or any improper wrongdoings. No reason was given.”

Goldthorp also confirmed that the job opening was posted for 10 days, before being taken down earlier this week. He told PennLive that East hopes to start the interviewing process with candidates as early as later this week.

“Again, it’s just sad to me,” Harvey said. “In spite of our success and all the great things we’ve done for the girls, I won’t be back.”

Last season, East went 21-7, including a third-place finish in the District 3 tournament, plus a victory over Central Bucks West in the first round of the PIAA tournament.

Harvey helped East produce a pair of Division I recruits: Panthers’ senior CaLee Gelbaugh, who missed most of this season with a knee injury, has signed with Loyola (Md.), while junior Michaela Gelbaugh has committed to Maryland-Baltimore County.

Harvey has spent this postseason helping out Susquehanna Township’s boys’ team, which will play in the PIAA-AAA state championship game on Friday against Neumann-Goretti.
