2014 PENNLIVE BOYS LACROSSE ALL-STARS

FIRST TEAM

MARK BOWSER, CARLISLE

Bowser split time in goal last season for a Carlisle team that reached the district semifinals and the state quarterfinals. As the full time goalie in 2014, Bowser emerged as a solid netminder and seemed to rise to the occasion in the postseason. His steady play in the District 3 playoffs and terrific vision loomed large in the Thundering Herd's march to the D3 championship.

MAX BRESCHI, CARLISLE

The Carlisle offense usually ran through Breschi and he almost always delivered. Despite drawing heavy attention from opposing defenses, the Herd's senior attack scored 41 goals and 27 assists and fired off 102 shots. His knack for scoring in Carlisle's biggest games earned him a reputation as one of the most clutch scorers in District 3.

LOGAN CALHOUN, HERSHEY

On a team that featured a slew of offensive weapons, Calhoun emerged as the glue for the Trojans' prolific offensive attack. He may not have been the highest scorer every match, but Calhoun always seemed to make his mark in some capacity. Calhoun finished with 66 goals and 37 assists for a Hershey team that won the Mid-Penn title, reached the District 3 semifinals and qualified for the state playoffs.

JIMMY EBERLE, HERSHEY

Another hard-nosed midfielder for the Trojans, who chipped in eight goals and 13 assists. But that's not where Eberle makes his mark. In the midfield and on defense, Eberle is a steadying and physical presence as he forced 22 turnovers and scooped up 48 ground balls. The combination of Eberle and Sickler helped Hershey develop a much better defensive presence this spring.

SID EWELL, CARLISLE

All intensity all the time for this converted long pole midfielder. Ewell dogged attack players and midfielders all over the field and never avoided contact. The Central PA All-America selection finished with 90 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers in helping Carlisle to a district title.

WILLY HENDRICK, MANHEIM TWP.

Emerged as the top offensive option for Kyle Wimer's Blue Streaks, finishing with 60 goals and 27 assists for the Lancaster-Lebanon League champs. Hendrick scored five or more goals in a game five times this spring and netted a season-high six goals on May 6 in the L-L semifinals against Warwick.

TIM HICKEY, TRINITY

Always consistent and always in the right spot defensively for the Shamrocks. The Holy Cross recruit set a school record this season in ground balls in helping to lead the Shamrocks' defense to a 5.1 goal against average. The leader of a talented, veteran group of long pole defenders.

J.T. HOPPLE, CHAMBERSBURG

Did anything that was asked of him by head coach Paul Flohr. Hopple exhibited the essence of a two-way midfielder, finishing with 32 goals and 13 assists, but he also stepped it up on the defensive end with 27 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls. Hopple also played in man-up and man-down situations and could also chip in on the faceoff wing.

KOTY KEEFER, EPHRATA

Keefer is one of the purest, smoothest scorers you'll see in District 3. Two years ago, he was a key member of Ephrata's District 3 championship team and has continued his standout play ever since. Keefer finished with 78 goals and 64 assists in helping the Mounts reach the District 3 quarterfinals.

TEDDY MAZAHERI, LAMPETER-STRASBURG

Another of the L-L's up-and-coming sophomores, the soft-spoken Mazaheri is anything but in the faceoff circle. He won 187 faceoffs for a 64.5 percentage and was named to the L-L First Team at FO. Mazaheri also finished with 92 ground balls and also chipped in a little offensively with 15 goals and nine assists.

JON MUNDELL, CARLISLE

If he doesn't win the faceoff, Mundell will make you earn it, which makes him one of the scrappiest midfielders in the Mid-Penn and District 3. The Thundering Herd senior scrapped his way to 104 faceoff wins and also staked his offensive opportunities with 22 goals and 12 assists. His play in the postseason was key in the Herd's run to the District 3 championship.

TOM POULOS, ELIZABETHTOWN

Just a sophomore, Poulos will be a scary player when he's a senior. Actually, he's already pretty darn good as one of the best faceoff guys in the L-L and a very good scoring midfielder. Poulos won 70 percent of faceoffs and finished with 123 ground balls to go along with 33 goals and eight assists.

MATT SALLADE, MANHEIM TWP.

Considered to be one of the steadiest and most tenacious defenders in both the Lancaster-Lebanon League and District 3, Sallade helped the Blue Streaks win both the L-L regular-season and playoff championship. The Streaks, when at full strength, had one of the best defensive units in District 3 and Sallade was at the forefront of it.

DAVID SICKLER, HERSHEY

A jack of all trades on the field, Sickler contributed defensively and chipped in on faceoffs for the Mid-Penn Conference champs. The Navy recruit finished with 57 ground balls, 24 forced turnovers and 14 takeaways. And when they needed a little offense, Sickler was there to add nine goals and two assists.

ZACH WARD, HEMPFIELD

As the 2014 spring season progressed, Ward continued to get better and as a result, so did Hempfield. Ward became one of the Lancaster-Lebanon League's most prolific scorers, finishing with 64 goals and 26 assists. He also got off 114 shots for a 56.1 shot percentage for a Hempfield club that battled Manheim Twp. for the L-L title and also reached the District 3 quarterfinals.
