PENNLIVE GIRLS' LACROSSE ALL-STAR TEAM
FIRST TEAM
Hershey's sophomore netminder grew by leaps and bounds and as a result, the Trojans were a much improved team defensively in 2014. Anderson, the younger sister of fellow all-star Corrie Anderson, finished with 191 saves and helped hold opponents to single digit goals in 11 of 20 games.
Lister, also an outstanding field hockey player, makes her third appearance on the PennLive first team after scoring 106 goals and 39 assists in her senior season. A lightning rod for the Falcons' offense, Lister was also terrific on draws and her speed on the counter attack made life miserable for opposing defenses.
Part of an exceptionally talented senior class, Cardina was voted as the Lancaster-Lebanon League's top midfielder, finishing with 37 goals and a team-high 54 assists. Like teammate Emily McBride, she was also a force on the defensive end and caused 16 turnovers with 47 ground balls and 32 draw controls.
Another of the go-to scoring options for the District 3 champion Blue Streaks, Yuko finished with 62 goals and 10 assists. Like many of her teammates, she's asked to be good on both ends of the field and this 2013 All-American delivered with 30 draw controls, 36 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
As tenacious a defender as you'll see in District 3. Her speed allows her to stay with pretty much any attack and she led the Blue Streaks with 51 draw controls. Eberly also led the team with 63 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers. This Lock Haven recruit was named the L-L MVP defender.
The Blue Streaks junior and Virginia recruit scored 102 goals and 21 assists, but she was also a force on the draw with 43 controls and 44 ground balls. McBride also finished with 21 caused turnovers and helped set the stage for Manheim Twp. to win a sixth straight District 3 championship.
Once again, Anderson was one of the top goal producers in the Mid-Penn Conference, but her improvement in facilitating Hershey's offense was quite noticeable. She produced 114 goals and finished with 408 for her career, but she also added 27 assists as she drew increased attention from opposing defenses.
ALLY BACHINSKY, CUMBERLAND VALLEY
Cumberland Valley's run to the Mid-Penn Conference title, the District 3 semifinals and a first ever state playoff berth was due partly to a much improved defense. Bachinsky was at the forefront of some terrific Eagles' defensive play. A Mid-Penn Conference first teamer, Bachinsky finished with 14 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls, but her transition out of the back and ability to guard the opposition's top player made her one of the steadiest defenders in the league.
RACHEL HARMAN, CUMBERLAND VALLEY
Playing behind two talented senior classes, Harman finally had her chance to shine this season for Cumberland Valley's offense. Harman finished her senior year with 67 goals, 18 assists, 42 draws and 19 caused turnovers. Her confidence grew throughout the season in helping fuel the Eagles' run to the Mid-Penn title and the PIAA playoffs.
Hager is back again on the PennLive All-Star team and it's easy to see why. The Iona recruit totaled 57 goals and 34 assists, but her 122 wins on the draw helped set up a lot of Cumberland Valley's transition offense. Hager's height also made her a terrific target as she was able to grab very high passes on her cuts to the net.
Like Manheim Twp.'s Maddie Eberly, Costanza will continue her lacrosse career at Lock Haven and it'll be getting one of the fastest forwards in District 3. The Eagles standout is exceptional through transition and finished with 57 goals and 26 assists. Her best stat, though, is in the middle of the field where she finished with 69 draw controls to go along with 46 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
Arguably, the most athletic midfielder/defender combo in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Check out these defensive numbers - 27 interceptions, 21 blocked passes, 67 contested ground balls and 66 caused turnovers. Oh and Sukanic can chip in with a little offense, finishing the spring with 14 goals and 11 assists.
KELLY DAGGETT, LANCASTER COUNTRY DAY
Daggett was the main power source for a terrific LCD club that made its first ever District 3 final and its first appearance in the PIAA playoffs. The Cougars' standout fired in 96 goals and dished out 28 assists for 124 points. Daggett's shooting percentage of 60 was one of the best in the L-L, while also proving to be one of the best on the draw with 95 draw controls.
You know you have a complete player when she leads her team in just about every pertinent category. Edwards was that kind of talent for the Comets. She was great in the midfield, but on attack, she chipped in 50 goals, 11 assists and 30 draws. Edwards, however, also got back to help out on defense as evidenced by her 41 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
Mahon is making her second straight first team appearance and has become one of the most complete midfielders in the Mid-Penn. The Little Lions senior, a Marquette recruit, finished with 67 goals and 49 assists, proving that she's just as good of a distributor on the lacrosse field as she is on the basketball court.
