Lancaster Catholic's Willie Burger invited to Perfect Game All-American Baseball Classic

Another week, another honor for Lancaster Catholic rising senior baseball standout Willie Burger.

Seven days after being invited to play in the Area Code Games in August in California, Burger on Sunday was tabbed to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

That prestigious all-star event is set for Aug. 10 at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, with an 8 p.m. EDT first pitch.

MLB Network will televise the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

The Area Code Games are Aug. 4-9 in Long Beach, so Burger will spending the entire week playing baseball in the sunshine state.

This past spring, Burger went 2-3 with a 2.07 ERA on the mound for the Crusaders, piling up 66 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Both of his victories were shutouts.

At the plate, he went 23-for-60 — a .383 batting average — with 21 RBI, eight doubles, a triple, three home runs, 16 runs, three stolen bases and a nifty 1.165 OPS.

Burger was an L-L League Section 4 all-star and an all-league selection this past season.
