Two AAU basketball teams from Harrisburg-based South Central Select opened play Wednesday in the Live at Atlantic City tournament with victories that advanced them deeper into the winners’ bracket.
Tigh Savercool’s South Central U-17s opened with a narrow 57-54 triumph over the Raritan (N.J.) Roundballers at Richard Stockton College behind a terrific effort from 6-6 senior forward Quintin Ward of Susquehanna Twp.
Up next for SCS is a date with Global Squad (Md.) Thursday at noon, also at Richard Stockton College.
Savercool’s U-16s also moved forward in the winners’ bracket, defeating South Jersey Select by a 55-46 count at Atlantic City High School in front of a number of Division I coaches — including Villanova’s Jay Wright.
On tap for SCS Thursday at 10:50 a.m. is a showdown with Team Final Black, a Philly-based outfit with plenty of Division I prospects. That game also will be played at Atlantic City High School.
Team Pennsylvania’s U-17s and U-16s will open play Thursday in the invitation-only portion of the Fab 48 event in Las Vegas.
