Welcome to the 2014 high school football watch list, our streamlined approach to picking the annual PennLive all-star team team in December. Here are the logistics. Based on performance standards and our evaluations, PennLive's coverage team will add 6-8 football players who we believe should be eligible to land an all-star nomination every Thursday. Weekly additions will appear in bold.
Our initial list includes all returning all-state picks, returning members of the 2013 PennLive All-Star Football team, and 2013 first-team all-stars as voted on by coaches in the Mid-Penn Conference, Lancaster-Lebanon and Tri-Valley Leagues. Check back every Thursday to see if your favorite players have made the cut.
*Week 1 Picks
QB Tanner Erisman, Penn Manor: The L-L's first team in Ireland and Erisman led the way, completing 10 of 22 pass attempts for 213 yards and two scores. Added 12-yard TD run in 27-20 win over Cedar Cliff.
QB Collin Shank, Lampeter-Strasburg: Shank showed tremendous poise in leading the Pioneers back from a 17-0 deficit to Hempfield, an eventual 38-35 winner. Shank was 20 of 27 for 359 yards and three total scores.
RB Dalton Klinger, Newport: It's pretty clear the Buffs are going to need to guy to contend for a TVL title. Klinger ran 35 times for 191 yards in Newport's tight 24-21 decision over Fairfield.
RB Devin Washington, Hempfield: Speaking of the Pioneers, L-S had all kinds of trouble boxing in the talented Washington, who rushed for 115 stripes and two TDs in that three-point win.
RB Bryton Fegley, East Pennsboro: Fegley fronted East Pennsboro's lopsided win over Palmyra, rushing for 239 yards and four touchdowns.
QB Billy Burger, Carlisle: Burger kept the Herd running North by completing 20 of 31 attempts for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Burger also chipped in a 40-yard TD run in Carlisle's 43-28 win at Mechanicsburg.
WR Zac Slonac, Trinity: We know Slonac's 12 catches and 216 receiving yards went a long way in Trinity's much-needed 37-30 triumph over Delone Catholic.
ATH Michael Hope, Camp Hill: We warned you about Hope's do-everything approach. Well, the senior caught three passes for 79 yards and two TDs. Plus, he returned an interception 53 yards for another rip in Camp Hill's 50-27 win at Upper Dauphin.
