While some of the state's best girls' volleyball teams duked it out at Garden Spot's Spartan Invitational, that certainly wasn't the only show in town.
Down at McConnellsburg High School, a pair of Mid-Penn Conference rivals squared off in the tournament championship, with Shippensburg bouncing Capital Division playmate James Buchanan 2-0 for the title.
The Greyhounds, winning by scores of 25-17 and 25-20 in the final, didn't lose a game all day.
"The girls consistently played well as a team, and their services were much improved today," head coach Suwan Kongkeattikul emailed after the tournament.
Over the event, Ship was led by Alyssa Delida (38 kills), Shaelyn Ulsh (28 kills), Becca Davis (52 assists), Lynelle Thrush (42 assists) and Kysesen Maravich (12 digs).
James Buchanan was paced by Erica Eberly (21 kills, six aces, 19 digs), Jenna Carbaugh (14 kills, five aces, 18 digs), Tyana Quivers (11 kills, 11 aces, 18 digs) and a combined 55 assists from Kayla Cummings and Sarah Blair.
Elsewhere Saturday, West Perry topped Middletown 3-1 in a Mid-Penn crossover contest. Angel Richard, Alexx Kon, Gracie Stauffer and Navy Sheaffer shared 31 kills for the Mustangs.
And Upper Dauphin recorded a Tri-Valley League sweep of Mifflin County, led by Laura Sweger's 11 kills, four blocks and three aces. Anna Aurand served four aces to go along with two kills and a block for the Huskies.
