LANCASTER - He is, to quote his head coach, a pest.

And that word perfectly sums up Lancaster Catholic junior Eric Schneider.

The Crusaders' 5-8 guard is a defensive specialist.

From tip to buzzer, he's in your mug - non-stop.

Full-court press. Half-court press. Half-court, man-to-man defense.

Schneider is a whirling dervish - all hands and feet, poking for a steal or making it impossible for you to get a clean look at a pass or a shot.

At the end of the night, he's usually the guy with floor burns from diving all over the place. And Thursday night vs. Lebanon Catholic, Schneider, in the middle of everything on the defensive end, took an elbow to the eye, drew blood, and will be sporting a tough-guy shiner for the next several days.

That's Eric Schneider.

Schneider's assignment Thursday night was blanketing Timmy Orr, Lebanon Catholic's 6-2 scorer.

Orr came into the game needing 24 points for 1,000 in his career.

With Schneider chasing him at will, Orr was held to 8 points.

Lancaster Catholic won 52-36 and remained alone in first place in Section 4.

After the game, Lebanon Catholic coach praised Lancaster Catholic's team defense, and he was quick to mention Schneider's effort against Orr.

Lancaster Catholic coach Joe Klazas called Schneider a pest - in a good way, of course.

Chatted with Schneider after the Crusaders' win over the Beavers about his defensive prowess - and anything and everything Lancaster Catholic basketball.
