HS boys' basketball: Late hoop sinks Harrisburg in overtime at Atlantic City showcase

Despite double-doubles from Steven Stoney and Shaquon "Shoop" Sheppard, Kirk Smallwood's Harrisburg Cougars dropped a 67-65 decision to Cape Henry (Va.) in the Battle By The Bay showcase at Atlantic City High School.

James Paige's runner with two seconds remaining in the extra session propelled Mark Hall's Dolphins (18-3) to the victory.

The loss snapped Harrisburg's sparkling 17-game winning streak.

Sheppard finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Cougars (20-2), forcing overtime at the end of regulation by knocking down a free throw to complete a conventional three-point play.

Stoney wound up with 19 points and 11 boards the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division champions, who will meet Gettysburg when the Mid-Penn tournament commences on Feb. 12 at a site and time to be announced.

Andrew Langston's 19 points -- including 15 from beyond the 3-point arc -- led a quartet of Cape Henry scorers who reached double figures. Paige and Virginia-bound Devon Hall added 16 for the Dolphins, who led 32-27 at the break.

Cape Henry also picked up 11 from Chris Clarke.

Ashtin Cooksey-Easter chipped in 13 points for the Cougars, who played without forwards Chris Britton and Dom Lewis -- both of whom were making college visits to check out football programs.

The 6-3 Britton, in fact, committed to Connecticut on Sunday.

Cape Henry also played on Saturday in Atlantic City, losing to New Jersey heavyweight St. Benedict's Prep.
