Red Land whipped up three first-inning runs via Shane Dressler's RBI double, and RBI single by Kyle Searfoss, and eventually knocked out Commonwealth foe Central Dauphin 4-1 Tuesday.
In between, catcher Ben Snyder, who followed Jamie Eshleman's lead-off single with one of his own, posted on a wild pitch from Rams' ace Justin Rohrer.
The early digits helped ease pitcher Zach Newmyer, who styled a 78-pitch five-hitter with four strikeouts. Newmyer walked none and didn't allow a single extra-base hit. Eshelman chipped in two hits and scored twice for Red Land (8-1, 7-0). TJ Osborne's RBI fielder's choice paced the Rams (4-6, 2-5). Rohrer fanned eight in the loss.
Cumberland Valley 8, Chambersburg 3 (9): Three times the Eagles (5-3, 5-1) lost one-run leads, but big efforts by Mike Adams and Hunter Schryver helped CV erase Chambersburg's four-game winning streak.
In the top of the ninth, Adams forced three runs across with a double off Trojans' reliever Jonathon Brown. RBIs by Tyler Heisey and Kole Aumiller capped the five-run outburst.
Adams, who chipped in a RBI fielder's choice in the second, also snatched the win with three sterling innings of relief. Schryver finished 3-for-3. Matt Stonesifer's two RBIs, and two hits apiece by Colby Dice and Brown, fueled the Trojans (6-4, 5-2), who left the bases loaded in the last of the eighth.
