HS softball roundup: Mifflin County's Shelby Lyter strikes out 18 Cedar Cliff batters

Shelby Lyter struck out 18 of 21 Cedar Cliflf batters as the Huskies downed the Colts 8-1 in Commonwealth Division softball play on Tuesday.

Mifflin County (12-4) registered 10 hits. ... Elsewhere in the Commonwealth, State College defeated Red Land 8-3. ... Cumberland Valley accumulatd 14 hits overall and scored 17 times in the second inning in a 19-4,  three-inning win over Carlisle. Kara Holtzman had three hits and three RBI and Hanna Edwards and Taylor Krow  chipped in with two hits and three RBI apiece. ... Also, Central Dauphin stepped out of league play and subdued Cedar Crest 13-2, supporting winning pitcher Carlee Gochenour with 15 hits. Katie Gable homered for Cedar Crest.

KEYSTONE DIVISION: Mechanicsburg, striving for a berth in the District 3-AAAA playoff bracket, won its 13th game against five defeats with an 11-4 victory over Susquehanna Twp. Shannon Bonner was staked to a 9-3 lead after three innings with six Indian errors contributing to the loss. Taylor Clark homered for Mechanicsburg. Susquehanna Twp. pitcher Allison Hartman struck out 10 Wildcats but took the loss. ... Middletown's Sarah Gossard took a no-hitter to the seventh inning when she gave up two hits to Harrisburg, but Gossard's 10 strikeouts were more than enough in a 9-0 shutout effort against the Cougars. Carlie Wolfe drove in five runs for the winners and Cheyenne Frayre was 2-for-3. ... Lower Dauphin led Palmyra 8-1 when the game was suspended; it is scheduled to be continued on Wednesday.

CAPITAL DIVISION: Susquenita's Rachel Sterner scattered seven hits while her own teammates had 16 of their own in a 15-5 win over Trinity. Carra Stevens ended the game in the fifth-inning with a two-run home run. ... Renee Stouffer pitched a two-hitter for East Pennsboro and shut out Camp Hill 7-0. East Penn had seven hits.

TRI-VALLEY: Millersburg's Marlo Roadcap tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Indians blanked Juniata 10-0. The winners scored three runs in three different innings as Kayla Snyder, Mikayla Armon and Roadcap had three hits apiece. ... Halifax tallied eight times in the first two innings and held of Greenwood 9-8. Chelsea Konyar picked up the win despite yielding 10 hits to Greenwood. However, she helped herself with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. Greenwood's Brooke Louden quieted the Halifax bats in relief of Chelsea Hicks. ... Line Mountain edged East Juniata 13-12.

Elsewhere, Manheim Twp. downed Elco 12-5. Maddie Shaak was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in defeat.
