LANCASTER - It was deja vu all over again for Manheim Township's boys' tennis team on Wednesday.
Deadlocked at 2-all against archrival Hempfield in the District 3 Class AAA team championship at Hershey Racquet Club, the match came down to No. 3 singles.
And for the second time this postseason, Manheim Township's Ben Wirth knocked off Hempfield's Kyle Lamb.
This time, Wirth outlasted Lamb 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, giving the Streaks a 3-2 victory and district gold - snapping Hempfield's 2-year reign over District 3.
Make that four Class AAA championships for Manheim Township since District 3 went to two classifications in 1999.
The Streaks, under longtime coach Doug Pennington, also won team titles in 2010, 2001 and 2000 - meaning Manheim Township and Hempfield have won the last four Class AAA crowns between them.
The Streaks also won six single-class championships, including four in a row from 1992-95.
In the L-L League championship on April 23, Wirth topped Lamb 6-2, 6-3, locking up Manheim Township's 3-2 win.
Also Wednesday, Elco blanked Camp Hill 3-0 in the Class AA third-place match, putting the Raiders in the PIAA team tournament.
Manheim Township and Hempfield will be in the Class AAA state team tournament.
