La Salle College was through with playing second fiddle.

The Explorers, having settled for state silver medals in 2010 and 2012, came into Hersheypark Stadium Saturday afternoon as the prohibitive favorite to win their first state crown since 2009.

Even if their opponent was three-time defending PIAA champ Conestoga.

Not even Conestoga's lofty state resume could stop a La Salle side that was loaded with Division I talent.

And in the first quarter, the Explorers, champions of District 12, resembled a polished Division I outfit.

La Salle College exploded for six first quarter goals and was never threatened in a 13-4 win over the Pioneers in a lopsided PIAA boys' lacrosse final.

Matt Rambo led the way with a game-high four goals, three of which came in a span of three minutes of the first quarter when the Explorers had 'Stoga back on its heels.

Brian McNamara and Jeff Cimbalista gave La Salle the early 2-0 lead after Conestoga was content to work the ball around and eat clock. Rambo followed with his three goal burst to make it 5-0 before Cimbalista fed Sean Coleman to make it 6-0 after one quarter.

Cimbalista finished with three goals, while Coleman had two goals and four assists and McNamara chipped in a pair of goals.

Conestoga, which has appeared in all five PIAA lacrosse finals, played much better after the first quarter, but the six goal deficit was too much to overcome.

The Pioneers scored the first two goals of the second quarter to get within 6-2, but La Salle led 8-2 at the half on a goal from Stephen Hudak with one second left.

Jake Scott led Conestoga with two goals, while goalie Robert Zonino made nine saves. La Salle goalies Nick Hreshko, Colin MacDougall and Conor Scafidi combined to make eight saves.
