BEDFORD -- Greencastle-Antrim took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning of its PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal softball game with Ambridge on Saturday but Ambridge put up a five-spot in the inning and held the Blue Devils scoreless after that to advance to Monday's semifinals with a 5-3 victory.

Haleigh Regal, Mary Ward and Casey German scored for Greencastle in the third inning as Whitney Mongan and Erin Bontrager had two RBIs.

Ambridge countered in the fifth inning as winning pitcher Hannah Smith blasted a go-ahead three-run home run to deep center field to put the Bridgers up to stay.

Kelsey Brewbaker pitched for Greencastle-Antrim as freshman pitcher Liz Ward was unavailable on Saturday.

"Kelsey pitched a  great game,'' G-A coach Mark DeCarli said. "She threw strikes; she pitched one heck of a game. I'm proud of her.''

Brewbaker suffered an early-season injury and this was her first game back in the circle.

"It was a great game,'' DeCarli said. "We had a couple of miscues and Kelsey threw a great pitch and that girl (Smith) hit it.''

G-A had a couple of baserunners in the bottom of the seventh but could not score.

"Overall it was a great season,'' DeCarli said. "We won a division championship, a District 3 title and a game in the state tournament.

"I was very proud of how they played and I couldn't  be happier for my first year. We're looking to build on to that for next year,'' said DeCarli, who loses eight seniors from this year's squad that finished 20-7.
