1. Meaghan Raab's last meet in the district
There will be states in a couple of weeks, but for local swimming fans who cannot make the trip to Bucknell, this will be the last opportunity to see Hershey's Meaghan Raab compete in person. The Georgia recruit isn't taking the easy road for her last District 3-AAA girls championship. Last year, she won the 100-yard and 200 freestyle races, but this year will be competing in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke.
2. Palmyra girls in the AA team title mix
It won't be easy, but the Palmyra girls are in contention for the District 3-AA title. The Cougars only have one No. 1 seed, Peyten Lyons in the 200 individual medley. But Reney Hess is the No. 2 seed in both the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, and Lyons and Bethany Stutzman are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. In addition, all the Palmyra relay teams are seeded in the top three.
3. Trinity looking for a trophy
While the Palmyra girls look to contend with several top three seeds, the Trinity boys will be in AA boys' team title contention with five top seeds. First, all the Shamrocks' relay teams are No. 1 in their fields. Then, Ian DiCarlo is on top of the 100 freestyle heat sheet, and Henry Tanguay is No. 1 in the 100 breaststroke.
4. Berks County boys in great position
Although Hershey and Trinity dominate the No. 1 seeds in the boys' meets with eight and and five, respectively, some Berks County swimmers have a chance to break up the dominance of the Trojans and Shamrocks. In AAA, Ryan Owens of Daniel Boone is the top seed in both the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. In AA, Matthew Leenhouts of Fleetwood is No. 1 in the 200 freestyle and Dillon Lancenese of Brandywine Heights is No. 1 in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke.
5. Freshmen ready to step up
Nothing like having high expectations in an athlete's first district championship meet. Freshman Courtney Harnish from West York is the top seed in two AA girls' events. She is on top of the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle heat sheets by six and 30 seconds, respectively. Megan Hunt of York Suburban, another freshman, does not have that kind of cushion, but she is the No. 1 seed in the 100 breaststroke.
