Cumberland Valley used an overtime goal from Tristan Enck to end Hershey’s run as CPIHL Tier 1 Bears Cup champions.
In a thrilling and well played end-to-end hockey game at Hersheypark Arena, Enck shoved the puck into a wide open net 3:04 into the extra session to give the Eagles a 5-4 victory.
It was Enck’s second goal of the night as the senior finished with four points.
Enck’s winning goal came in a flurry that started when the Eagles had a quick shot on goal right off the faceoff. Trojans goalie Aaron Dobrolsky made the initial save, stopped a rebound shot but was helpless when the puck trickled to Enck 5-feet all alone in the front.
Cumberland Valley, the regular-season winners of Tier 1, saw Hershey rally three times from a one-goal deficit in the first two periods.
Hershey grabbed a brief 4-3 lead when Aaron Ellenberger tallied his second marker of the game less than two minutes into the third period.
Jared Lombardi’s second goal of the game for Cumberland Valley only 36 seconds later made it 4-4 with nearly 13 minutes remaining.
Each team had big-time chances coming down the stretch in regulation, but Cumberland Valley’s Addison Antonetti and Dobrolsky, who was forced into action when starter Erich Valania left in the first period with an ankle injury, each came up with big saves to force overtime.
Hershey had a golden opportunity in overtime less then 30 seconds before Enck ended this thrilling night of CPIHL high school hockey where all three championship games were decided by a single goal.
Hershey’s Tyler Parrey found himself all alone in front with the puck on his stick. Parrey ripped a shot ticketed for the top corner. Antonetti came up with a huge shoulder save on what looked like a sure goal the second it left Parrey’s stick.
Cumberland Valley outshot Hershey 36-27.
