In a surprise move, Bill Lanscek is out as Bethlehem Catholic’s girls’ basketball coach.

The Golden Hawks, who reached the PIAA-AAA title game in 2013, and spent this entire season inside PennLive’s top 10, are set to return five top players next season, including all-state player and 1,000-point scorer Kalista Walters.

The Allentown Morning Call is reporting that Becahi opened up its girls’ basketball coaching position, and announced Lanscek would not be returning via a press release.

Under Lanscek, Becahi went 161-97 over the last 10 years, including a 25-4 mark this season, when the Golden Hawks finished No. 9 in PennLive’s Class AAA state rankings.

Becahi won its fourth Lehigh Valley Conference East Division championship in a row and then captured the District 11 championship before bowing out in the second round of the PIAA-AAA playoffs.

“We appreciate the time and energy that coach Lanscek has given to the program,” Becahi athletic director Mike Grasso said in a release sent to the Allentown Morning Call. “He has worked hard with our student-athletes. We wish coach Lanscek the best. I’m sure he will be a success wherever he coaches.”
