Each Monday during the football season, members of the PennLive prep football coverage team will pass out three game balls to deserving gridiron athletes. So without further ado. ….
1. Dylan Romig, RB, Boiling Springs: While the Bubblers defense certainly deserved their share of credit for that 41-33 victory over Big Spring, Romig played point in that come-from-behind scalp. Allowed just 66 rushing yards through halftime, Romig hit the gas pedal in the second half and eventually laced the Bulldogs to the tune of 235 rushing yards and three scores. Romig's best quarter, the third, produced TD runs of 28 and 13 yards as the Bubblers reversed a 25-20 halftime deficit and held on.
2. Mark Pyles, QB, Lebanon: Every once in a while a single-game performance sort of rearranges the the laws of physics. Pyles delivered such a performance in the Lebanon's 51-27 triumph over Elco on Friday night. Check this out. Of the Cedars 582 yards of total offense, Pyles accounted for 555 of it, starting with a robust 418 passing yards and five touchdowns. The versatile signal caller also scrambled for 137 rushing yards and netted an additional two scores on the ground. So, in a perfect world, Lebanon's leader would get two game balls.
3. Mitchell Cooper, WR, Palmyra: For a program searching for inspiration, and wins, Cooper delivered big time in a 31-30 Cougars win over Donegal. The host Indians had just erupted for 18 third-quarter points, reversing a 24-12 deficit and threatening to keep the Cougars winless through three weeks. Soon after, Cooper hauled in a 16-yard TD pass from QB Michael Lewis, and Joel Lohr's PAT pushed Palmyra ahead for good. Cooper was sensational all night, catching 13 passes for 169 yards and pair of touchdowns.
